Your MOST Important Prayer Ever as a Leader.

In Uncategorized on January 26, 2011 at 10:10 am

Next to asking Christ to be your Savior, this prayer is the most important prayer you can pray as a leader. After 2 years of planning we launch our new church this weekend [www.ONEcommunity.tv], and there is a ton going on as you might imagine. What should we expect attendance wise? What is left to do? What makes a successful opening day? How did we get this far?

It’s simple. I love this mantra: “Pray as if it depends on God, push as if it depends on you!’ Jesus modeled this. He was with the crowds and on the mountaintops alone.

They told us to expect 50 people in this very hard area where it is up to 80%+ Mormon. We believe for more. 80% of the churches in Utah have 60 or less people in them. We hope to change that.

So what are we doing? EVERYTHING WE CAN! We listen to God and are working hard to do EVERYTHING He has told us to do. But in the end…it’s this simple:

It’s the most important prayer you can pray as a leader:

“Lord, we have PLANNED, PREPARED, PRACTICED, and PRAYED…now we PLACE IT IN YOUR HANDS!”

When you have done what the Spirit has prompted and when you have done all you can do and can’t do anything more…just lay at His feet and leave the outcome to HIM. Our goal is to BE with Jesus and not just WORK for Him.

So, here we go…pray for us please.

When you’re going through hell…

In Uncategorized on January 19, 2011 at 1:31 pm

You know that old country song right? Probably some good theology in it too. The past 2 years has been HELL for us, but you know what…the best is yet to come! God REFINES us through the process. He sharpens, prunes and beats the pride and snot right out of us [not all of it of course...unless you are claiming to be JC himself].

I for one was very excited for 2011 to appear [how about you?]. New beginnings, new slate, new highs, and I am sure there will be new lows. I am so thankful for an AMAZING Launch Team [small, but mighty] and an amazing Staff who gave up everything…family, friends, and jobs to join this dream. I can’t say enough how proud of each of you I am, and how much I truly love each of you for it.

SO, in the words of Rodney Adkins [and some of these can be traced back to Jesus]…

If you’re going through hell
Keep on going, don’t slow down
If you’re scared, don’t show it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you’re there

Well I been deep down in that darkness
I been down to my last match
Felt a hundred different demons
Breathing fire down my back
And I knew that if I stumbled
I’d fall right into the trap that they were laying, yeah

But the good news
Is there’s angels everywhere out on the street
Holding out a hand to pull you back up on your feet
The one’s that you’ve been dragging for so long
You’re on your knees
You might as well be praying
Guess what I’m saying

If your going through hell
Keep on going, don’t slow down
If you’re scared don’t show it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you’re there

Yeah, If you’re going through hell
Keep on moving, face that fire
Walk right through it
You might get out
Before the devil even knows you’re there.

“I will NEVER leave you, nor forsake you.” –Jesus

Your church is probably missing this too.

I can’t begin to say how honored, humbled and straight up blown away at what God is beginning to do at One Community Church in many ways, and most especially in the team that He is bringing to us. I am jacked to announce our latest addition to our team: John Homan and family from Phoenix [formerly the Washington, DC area] as our Pastor of Spiritual Development.

The biggest hole we had at my first plant was always in this area and not having someone who could focus their efforts and energy into making disciples. We now have that person! How do you get staff to come and join your team with little funding? Read about it HERE.

Is this real? Who are you and your family?:
I am John Homan, first and foremost, a family man and husband who has been
married for over 29 years to his sweetheart, Leanne. We are a family of 4 kids
and 2 grandkids. The oldest one is Natallia who is married to Anthony, and they
are actively involved in Ministry and priming to become missionaries in Italy.
They have the cutest kids, our grandkids of course, who are Aleyna (age 5) and
Gavin (age 2). Our other children, Nick (age 24) is our rockstar and plays in a
Praise Band, Joseph (age 18) is our budding entrepreneur, and Arielle (age 15) is
our youngest but boldest child.
I have combined business and ministry for the past 30 years. I love to build and
develop businesses and help ministries to grow. For the past 10 years, I have
been involved as a Real Estate Broker. At the same time we served fulltime in
ministry, at our last church located in Washington DC area, as we helped and
guided the church in almost every aspect of growing, from Spiritual development
of families to administrative and financial planning. Leanne has a passion
for kids and families, and she was instrumental in developing the successful
children’s and family program at our last church.

Why would you move to Utah?
Quite simply there are so few evangelical churches in the area, and there is a
great challenge to spread the good news to the residents of Utah. Although this
is a religious stronghold, there is a great need for the people (unchurched, church
seekers, and the established religion). It has been my goal to become a part of a
missionary work, and I have found “the undiscovered country,” the missionary
field right here in the good ol’ USA.

What moves your heart most here?
For the 2 groups here: The unchurched have little opportunity to find a voice
other than the dominating religion and our modern society with its answers.
There must be a better message through Jesus Christ, and how He can truly help
them.
For the established religious individuals, they really try to live a good moral life
hoping to attain the perfection, and thereby achieving their salvation. By and
large, the people here are mostly good-natured, moral loving, family oriented.
However, there is a growing dissatisfaction with their lifestyle, especially among
the younger generation. I am moved by the fact that they are so zealous, fervent
about another gospel. What if we can influence, just by being a part of the
community.

What is Utah like?
It is a big Country with a small town feel. The people are friendly and very family
oriented, which is so cool.
The Nature and landscape is totally bigger than life. I totally get it now, when
the early discoverer seen this country, they were marveled with such vivid colors,
natural formations that boggle, mountains that frame the open skies with snow
topped majesty, and incredible valleys and vistas. This place is an outdoor
paradise, great for the outdoor person.

What is your vision for Spiritual Development?
It is to see the people of One Community Church and the communities they serve
become the modern-day version of the early church. Becoming an integral part
of the community, by serving the spiritual needs in deed and word, and actively
reach and touch people in their day-to-day lives. Growing people to understand
who, what, and why of Jesus Christ, sharing their own personal stories and the
Gospel, and equipping to serve and give to the communities near and far.

How will you be raising support?
We will be asking all of our ministry friends, churches, and contacts to support
the vision for Utah through the fundraising efforts. We will also be asking our
Prayer Partners to pray for us and the work in Utah. In addition, I will also look
for additional income thru work or business, while serving in ministry.

What are some fears you have?
Not living to our full potential, and being just average, everyday people.
Not having a successful life the way God would see it.
People not laughing at my corny jokes. Ha ha!

What are you most excited about?
I am excited about all the fun we’ll have meeting new people, building a startup
or church plant, developing and growing people spiritually, and the opportunity
to make a difference in even one person’s life.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I am a movie buff, I love watching epics like Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones,
Star Wars. In fact our whole family love movie night at home. We love to cook
(comes from our restaurant background) and love to entertain. And I love to
workout at the gym. Scuba dive when I can.

Favorite bands?
U2, DC-Talk, Switchfoot, Passion Band, Newsboys, Audio Adrenaline. And
Classical Baroque.

What 3 words describe Chazzdaddy? [this is my twitter name BTW]
Rad-revolutionary, Passionate, and Genuine (the real deal!)

How can we best pray for you?
Pray for a smooth move and transition to Utah. Prayer for our families and
friends to understand our excitement as we make this journey. Covering and
Protection over our family. Prayer for our health, mind, and spirit. Help us to be
open to the New Thing God is doing, and to allow us the wisdom to put His
vision in place.

Why You SHOULD be building a building.

In Uncategorized on January 8, 2011 at 7:31 am

There is much backlash against brick and mortar and campus building these days.

I believe we are on the verge of huge breakthrough in the American church if and when we learn to embrace some of the thoughts in THIS INTERVIEW that is reposted from Tony Morgan’s blog with Mel McGowan who formerly was with Disney and is now visioneering for the church.

A must read for every senior leader and thinker in America. Our team in Utah has a long-range dream of an arts center as well as an indoor sports training complex in our rapidly growing area. 2 cultural centers that are lacking in our area.

The future will require churches to embrace an even heavier business approach and business mind-set. A Master of Divinity with a business emphasis might just be closer than you think. At least it should be.
