In Ashland Campus, New Hope News, multi-sites on September 29, 2008 at 2:35 am

Almost 300 today in ASHLAND. WOW. Only God. I can’t believe I have a small part in this thing. It is indescribable what HE is doing out here in the STICKS. Truly. Thank you GOD!

A HUGE THANKS to the Ashland Staff: Bud, Kevin, Nicole, the Ashland Launch Team, New Hope Staff, and all who helped us out in ANY way. You are more than appreciated. You ALL poured it ALL out and laid it ALL on the line for our KING!

Better than the attendance…lives were truly touched today. They really were. More thoughts to come later.

So after a great launch, lunch with family and friends (and I don’t want to hear about the BENGALS game…talk to me when we have a fair fight and not an 8th string quarterback:) Then caught a flight to Charleston to speak at a breakout HERE. Looking forward to a time of devotions and decompression on the beach tomorrow early before the conference starts @ 1:00pm. (Just a few minutes away!!!) Need some alone time right now.

Way to go New Hope! Way to go GOD! You all came through today, and this is just the beginning. I love this place.

blessings and peace!

Need 2 Minutes.

In multi-sites on September 27, 2008 at 7:31 pm

To all my church leader friends. Go to this POST at THE STICKS BLOG and help me out. I need 2 minutes of your time. Thanks yo.

This could be a historical weekend in your life.

In New Hope News on September 26, 2008 at 12:34 pm

Why you ask?

  • You have the opportunity to help change someone’s eternity. WHO ARE YOU WORKING ON BRINGING TO THIS NEW SERIES? (I have my peeps in mind…4 couples will be receiving invites today from Tiffany and I.) Now stop…how about you?
  • You have the opportunity to help CHANGE YOUR MARRIAGE! (I love teaching series like this, because I am ALWAYS the one who needs the LEARNING the most!)
  • You have to opportunity to pray for each campus as we return from the summer to see all of our campuses (Wooster, Loudonville, China and Ashland) GROW numerically, spiritually and in community with each other.
  • You have the chance to PRAY for our ASHLAND CAMPUS LAUNCH this Sunday @ 11:22 am @ Ashland High School. I ask you this: WILL YOU PRAY (at least) 5 MINUTES for the ASHLAND CAMPUS this weekend? I WANT TO LOG at least 1,000 minutes of prayer for Ashland this weekend (and don’t stop there!) WILL YOU DO IT? Don’t be lazy please…reply to the e-mail or say yes to the comments and I will let our team know how many are praying for them!
  • You have the chance to live out YOUR MISSION that GOD HAS CALLED YOU TO! I can’t be where you are, and you can’t be where I am…let’s go do what HE has called us to do. And I truly believe that this will be HISTORICAL WEEKEND at NEW HOPE.

I want to be a part of helping to organize that party in HEAVEN as the angels are breaking it out this weekend about new people finding the SAVIOR!

All that’s missing now is

YOU!

Let’s get at it!

Blessings and peace. See YOU this weekend!

we interrupt this multi-site conversation…

In money on September 25, 2008 at 9:00 am

ummm…was going to talk with our tech guys bout our multi-site technology, but since we are 4 days out from launch, and they are still deciding which way to go…I think I will postpone that one. And pray.

Anyway, I will interrupt for this string of questions that are killing me:

What will it take to get our country to realize that we can’t live on CREDIT? (It’s so bad right now that I think my 401K will be sending me a bill that I owe them!)

Why do we live in such an instant gratification society?

When will we learn?

What will it take to get us to stop this cycle?

Why do I make the same mistakes? Why do I make the same mistakes?

Soooo…..

Let me ask you this: As a church, are you hanging on? I know we have a long way to go to be steady, prepared and have money in reserve, but we’re working towards it! Our Executive Pastor told me this week that we are making solid progress, and that is an answer to prayer. This downturn has hurt everyone, everywhere, especially small town America.

My prayer is that we can pay off our building in the next 3-5 years. I hate carrying that debt, but we had like 20 services or something in a tiny space…lovin the idea of Francis Chan’s model.

An outdoor deal that lets the community share in the love. Wouldn’t work too well in Ohio…but there is something there we could bite on.

How about personally? How is it rolling? We will talk about finances one week during this SERIES kicking off this weekend. FINANCES KILL MARRIAGES AT A RAPID PACE!!! IT IS A DISEASE!!!!Looking for a great resource on handling finances? CHECK THIS OUT.

People at our church (and several people who don’t attend church but have come to New Hope to learn this…have paid off tens of thousands of $$$ toward financial freedom). It’s a great outreach to those in the community and a great growth tool for those in the church. DO SOMETHING! PEOPLE ARE HURTING AND THE CHURCH MUST STEP UP!

When we finally realize that we cannot live on credit, then everything changes.

People must realize that they cannot work their lives away to pay for things they can’t afford, and then, since they are so busy working to pay for what they can’t afford, they can’t use the stuff that they are working so hard for that they can’t afford, and then not only can’t they use it, but while they are working to keep their heads above water, their family/life is going to hell, not to mention their spiritual lives.

I pray we all wake up and let it begin with ME! Let it begin with our church! Let us realize that the love of money truly is the root of all kinds of evil. May we start to love God more than stuff. Been there, done that, still struggle at times!

How about you? Where are you right now…where are you heading? Where do you think the country is heading? Share the love with us.

blessing, peace, and financial freedom.

A low-risk approach to multi-site.

In multi-sites on September 24, 2008 at 4:01 am

Many people ask, when do I know that we are ready for multi-site? Here is a great post that reviews what they teach at the multi-site conference that I have been a part of in the past.

One of the easiest way to see how you feel about multi-site is to consider going multi-venue within your current environment. Try starting a service that is EQUALLY excellent (if not BETTER!)

Do the video technology with HUGE EXCELLENCE. Don’t short-cut it, but roll it out big time, and test drawing peope to a new venue (country, grunge, heavy metal, artistic, etc.). Of course music isn’t the only change you would make, but we all know how large that is. And you don’t have to be video 100% of the time. We are a hybrid video/live teaching model.

When and if we ever expand our building we will not only be multi-site, but multi-venue. (For an example, see THIS CHURCH.)

This is a great way to get your feet wet before the big commitment of going off-site and all your base operations are there (kids, cafe, parking, signage, etc.). Low risk, BIG PAY-OFF!

Have any of you done this? Let me know your thoughts. We’ll talk next time about the actual technology we “want” to use, and the technology that we are actually using in a video cast with our team.

Small town multi-site questions.

In New Hope News, multi-sites on September 23, 2008 at 12:04 pm

Can multi-site work in small, rural town. Yes.

Can multi-site work when the first campus is in a very rural town, and your new sites are in substantially larger cities? Yes.

What are the benefits and disadvantages to small town multi-site?

How can you save $100,000 and 2-5 years when starting a multi-site?

What are the basic necessities that a campus needs when launching in a small to medium sized town?

If you want to know the answer to some of these questions and more…then come check out the break-out session I will be leading at the MULTI-SITE EXPOSED CONFERENCE @ Seacoast Church next Monday and Tuesday. (Batterson, Surrat, Rizzo, just to name a few will be there…can’t wait to learn from them! Sponsered by the amazing team @ LEADERSHIP NETWORK)

Can’t make it to that? Check it out at the upcoming STICKS CONFERENCE multi-site break-out sessions.

Later this week I will be talking with our tech team about how we are making multi-site cost-effective for small budgets, so stay tuned!

And check out THIS NEWS ARTICLE on our newest multi-site launching in ASHLAND this weekend. (Yes…I really do have to get a campus launched with our awesome team and then board a plane that night to go teach a break-out, so MUCH PRAYER for the launch and myself would be so welcome!)

blessings and peace.

ummm…this 15 second read will hurt.

In Church Leadership on September 22, 2008 at 2:34 pm

Read THIS POST and do something about it. But only if you can handle reading it. 15 seconds is all it will take. The rest is up to me and you.

I went around the world in 60 seconds and had my picture with the President.

In Ashland Campus, Watch This, multi-sites on September 22, 2008 at 10:00 am

Didn’t know that was possible? At New Hope, it is. Watch this short lead-in to our now finished ON LOCATION series. Cool series…we went to all of our campuses and introduced the people to each campus, the people, the space, and some stories. From Loudonville to Wooster to Ashland to China…who would have thought? And the final week MELTED FACES off all of us.

I’ll be writing about our multi-site strategy this week…stay tuned.

Blessings and peace this week!

(And our Ashland Campus Launch Team and Staff Need some prayer THICK! 6 days until we KICK IT off in ASHLAND! We believe for 300+, and pray for HIM to show up with POWER!)

The HIGHLIGHT of the YEAR @ NEW HOPE.

In New Hope News, Watch This, baptism on September 18, 2008 at 9:00 pm

At New Hope, our annual baptism service is the highlight of the year for me, and I think most of our church. We have 100+ signed up or already baptized this month!

It’s not too late to get in on being OBEDIENT and being BAPTIZED. Call or e-mail us at NEW HOPE for information. Also go HERE for details about the picnic, baptism and awesome time we will share this SUNDAY NIGHT!!!! Bring some people with you to experience God in a safe environment outside the walls of the church.

Can’t wait… so, if you want a shot in the arm today…watch the video below! I promise it will lift you up in YOUR MISSION where HE has put you ON LOCATION today. And can’t wait to be back on the stage this weekend…I promise you that I am gonna bring it, so you won’t want to miss it as we finish the ON LOCATION series.

Blessings and peace!

Did you ever watch SUPERFRIENDS?

In New Hope News, student ministries on September 18, 2008 at 4:10 am

Big Impact shout out to 2 of my favorite brew ha’s, each who work with those under 18. One is close to the age of 18, one has kids way older than 18. Anyway, kudos to: Pastor Tom, Pastor Jeff and the whole U-18 team @ New Hope. If you are not involved in the EVOLUTION…you are missin’ it.

Maybe these videos that makes fun of yours truly and even a shot at my wife will inspire you to action. DOES SUPERFRIENDS bring back good memories of Saturday morning eating fruit loops with your eyes grilled on the set? (We got 3 channels back in the day, and Saturdays were the holy grail of cartoon mecca).

Not that dressing like some sort of mutated bug doesn’t bring you accolades and some whoop-whoop praise (at least from the 1st grade girls in Hopeland).

Glad to be back home and in the saddle…see ya this weekend on the stage at the HOPE!

Blessings and peace this week! (And CONGRATS PFC JED ROEPKE, a new Marine is born to serve our country!!!!)

The FUTURE of multi-site @ New Hope.

In multi-sites on September 17, 2008 at 1:50 am

HT: [ummm....can't remember, but thanks:]

5 seconds could have changed our lives forever.

In Devotional, New Hope News, the sticks conference on September 15, 2008 at 1:42 pm

That’s right. We were 5 seconds or less from being demolished in our van last night on St. Rt. 83 heading north coming home from our vacation in the Outer Banks.

There is a whole sermon here, but you will see it: I asked my bride to watch the road way ahead with me to see when wind bursts were coming so we could stop or drive fast through them. So glad we were looking ahead because we both spotted a massive tree falling right into the roadway ahead of us. I was able to stop maybe 10 yards from it’s outstretched limbs.

I was able to clear the road and drive in the ditch area around it barely with one of my girls crying badly she was so shook up. Then of course 15 seconds later when we were back up to speed, we were crushed on the top of our van by a large falling limb. So glad for the luggage rack which sustained the blow as far as I could see in the dark last night. Might be in for treat when I look today.

We were looking ahead. Not only that, but we were the only ones in the area with power because I bought a generator a few years back for a time such as this. That is just my nature. Some call me a freak for it, I call it looking ahead!

And to think that 5 seconds could have changed our family forever. Wow. THANK GOD FOR HIS PROVISION! (and thank Him when it doesn’t go our way as well!)

Speaking of the STICKS that were falling, go see THIS POST about our conference THE STICKS coming soon. We got some big blog pub from Tony Morgan about the history of New Hope and the Sticks.

By the way, if you are in the area and need anything, we would love to serve you whether you attend New Hope or not. Shoot me an e-mail (charles@newhopewired.tv) and we will do our best to help you as soon as possible.

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead…” (phil. 3.13.nlt)

blessings and peace!

You MUST do this.

In New Hope News, one prayer on September 12, 2008 at 11:42 pm

Let’s pray. As we watch non-stop coverage of HURRICANE IKE (and other tragedies around the block and around the world), let’s not just shake our heads. I know how easy it is to just watch and rejoice that it’s not us…So let’s join together and PRAY for those who are being impacted by this terrible storm. Do that right now.

And let’s remember that long AFTER the news crews leave, they will still be piecing their lives back together. I will keep my eyes open as to how we as a church might HELP them as the pleas will come in, no doubt.

We are NEW HOPE, and if you are not at New Hope…RALLY YOUR CHURCH as well. We need to be there for our brothers and sisters in their time of need. It is required of us.

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’”
(Matthew 25.41-43.niv)

Blessings, peace and join me in prayer.

SIMPLE CHANGE.

In Church Leadership, New Hope News, simple church on September 12, 2008 at 12:28 pm

So, yes, if you are wondering…blogging is a retreat for me. So while on vacation, I threatened to NOT POST, but I simply can’t. I enjoy getting thoughts out on “screen”. It’s really a relaxing adventure for me!

Anyway, enough of that. Here is my morning thought. I think the story goes like this: Jeff Cooper, our Executive Pastor and Myself had been discussing the chaos and ministry that is NEW HOPE. The world, SIMPLIFY came out. I then saw the book pictured at a conference and gave it to him (or mentioned it to him, or something like that). He then read it and fell in love. He asked me to share the love. I shared the love.

The result? We finally found what we have been searching for in concise fashion. So, the SIMPLE change for New Hope that will be quite LARGE is that we will certainly start to become more and more a SIMPLE CHURCH. We have talked about this for a year now, and started a few different lines of thought and process, but it’s time to really focus. So glad that someone went ahead of us so we don’t have to figure this out on our own!

If you are from the Hope, then you might want to peruse this book. If you are a church leader…this is one book you MUST READ, and NOW! If it doesn’t resonate, you should pontificate.

Off to the final 2 days of a SIMPLE BEACH VACATION. Really, we make our vacations SIMPLE, just like we are going to help make NH more simple.

Blessings and peace.

This is WHY we are OBSSESSED @ New Hope!

In Church Leadership, evangelism on September 10, 2008 at 1:12 pm

Sorry, I know I said I would be silent more this week, but as the rain falls and I am having fun reading this morning, I had to share this with you. It FIRED ME UP!

People wonder WHY I am OBSESSED, or better yet, why WE @ New Hope are obsessed with going off the beaten path.

We all need to WAKE UP. We are in a BATTLE, and we are LOSING. I grow weary of pastors who hide in their HOLY HUDDLES shooting arrows at us, nor do I care anymore. The facts are the facts. Read a quick excerpt here and let’s get to work for the KINGDOM!

“Experts see more troubling concerns than slowing growth: No measurable inroads on overall church attendance and signs that many churchgoers are spectators, not driving toward a deeper faith.

The unchurched remain untouched. While the number of people who say they attend at least once a week hovers around 30% year after year, the number who say they “never” go to church climbs.

The tally of “Nevers” varies from 16% in Gallup surveys to 22% in the General Social Survey, conducted by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, to 32% in an Ellison Research survey this year. The new “Nevers” come from the pool of people who once attended monthly or a few times a year.

Many slide away from church to find other answers to their spiritual quest or another church where the preaching or music or family programs better suit their style.

“You can create a church that’s big, but is still not transforming people. Without transformation, the Christian message is not advanced,” says Ed Stetzer, head of Lifeway Research in Nashville, which did the Outreach study.” (see entire story HERE from USA TODAY.)

And if you missed this POST yesterday on what happened in CHINA, read it. It will rock your world.

Let’s keep going off the beaten path! Blessings and peace.

URGENT PRAYER NEEDED!

In china campus on September 9, 2008 at 6:10 pm

So…yes I am resting, and yes, day by day I am getting better. Thanks for your prayers and KEEP THEM COMING!

So…something HIT me in the GUT this AM when I was spending time with the FATHER and I didn’t want to wait to tell you. The pic is me on the phone and what my view is in the AM where I am doing some private time with GOD each day.

As you can see…I was talking to my parents in CHINA, listening to HILLSONG worship, praying about the HUGE launch I know we will have in ASHLAND, when they told me this news:

The CHURCH in CHINA that was growing and meeting in a store front and HAD some protection is now being SHUT DOWN. They were told to STOP. And so is the SAFE RUN that a church of over 200 had as the only church of it’s kind in that city of MILLIONS. Disband to tiny, underground house churches…or else. I am ready to go back with some weaponry.

I felt like I was punched in the gut. PRAY FOR THEM, and remember how EASY we have it in AMERICA and get off your BUTT and serve the KING right where he has YOU.

No, seriously, PRAY and REFLECT right now. And BTW, PRAYER is our WEAPONRY!

What are YOUR THOUGHTS? Hit the comments and let me know. Do we care about this?

blessings, peace, and thankful for our FREEDOM…

I’m Baaaaaaaaaaaaack!

In Devotional, vision, your voice on September 2, 2008 at 7:24 pm

Not just from China, but from the hospital! If you didn’t hear, I picked up a nasty intestinal infection and THANK GOD I started getting very ill the last day in China.

The 18 hour plane ride was Hell. Just sayin. 4 days in the hospital was not any better. And trust me, Hell is much worse. Now home watching Sports Center, CNN, and Fox News endlessly say the same thing. Did watch the UCLA/Tennessee thriller last night…amazing!

So anyway…if you really want to know: small intestine infection, was swollen and “stringy”. Whatever that means. Also had issues with my liver due to the infection. All seemed to have been resolved with serious meds for 4 days at the hospital. I have “long hair”, a beard and am skinny. I have never been so HAPPY to see my bed after almost 3 weeks in China and 4 days in the hospital. No joke. It was like Christmas to a 6 year-old.

Still not out of the woods, the next few days are important. Of course, I am supposed to be on vacation for the next 2 weeks after a long summer schedule, so don’t expect to hear from me on the blog. I might post out of boredom this week. Next week supposed to be at the OBX. Should just miss the next hurricane! Never a dull moment for the Chazzdaddy.

Another urgent request…pray for my Dad’s sister, Patti, she is fighting for her life after a massive heart attack in Indianapolis. And of course they are still in China. Satan loves to create chaos during those rare times of REST. Ask God to help SOLVE ALL of this for our family. I need some down time. And some of our family is hurting way more than me.

Thanks for all of your prayers! God did some amazing things in China, and continues to do amazing things here at home, thanks to those of you at NEW HOPE and those of you at OTHER CHURCHES who are being LED BY HIS SPIRIT! My question: Is He doing something AMAZING in YOUR HEART personally? You don’t have to travel anywhere for that to happen.

Hit the COMMENTS and tell me what HE IS DOING IN YOU!

“And I will put my Spirit IN YOU and MOVE YOU to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” (ezekiel 36.27.niv)
