Only God.

In China Trip 2008 on August 26, 2008 at 11:08 am

could do this…here is a “bad” picture (for safety reasons of course) of a room full of people.

I will be baptizing an unknown amount of Chinese Christians tonight (they keep coming in) who desire to follow the command of Jesus. The GREAT COMMISSION is alive and well. And going into ALL THE WORLD is not an option, it is a command from Matthew 28:19-20. This is the 3rd baptism we have held here.

So, how about another miracle. A young man attended New Hope China for the first time last week who wasn’t ready to trust Christ. I asked him point blank. He said he had questions and wasn’t ready. We prayed BIG TIME for him on Sunday at his mother’s request and laid hands on him asking that he would find Christ. Sometime in the last 2 days, HE DID! And we had no idea until he rang the doorbell and said he was here to be baptized too. Stop and get the Kleenex.

And after this I will baptize someone else in secret (as if this isn’t dangerous enough) who is afraid of retribution from her husband/boyfriend? who works for the government.

So unbelievable that this all started in a tiny town in oHIo. Only God. Simple OBEDIENCE. Pray for these Chinese believers. I STAND AMAZED IN THE PRESENCE…

How about YOU? Hit the COMMENTS below.

Those of you from NH are here with me! You made it happen with HIS power. Thank you!

Blessings and peace.

Journey’s Through CHINA.Part 5

In China Trip 2008 on August 25, 2008 at 6:00 am

Hello all! Sitting in a meeting on some new technology at my Dad’s work today…so a great time to blog as I have not much idea what they are saying, and surprisingly enough, it is all in ENGLISH!

Apparently he is pretty critical over here to the plastics molding engineering department. He is working on Microsoft Xbox and other big projects you would recognize. Having fun so far except for the lunch. Man, can’t wait to get home and gain some of these pounds back! Looking forward to an awesome western restaurant tonight with my Mom and Dad as Tiff and Christian took off from Hong Kong today (Your Sunday Night and will land around 8:30 Monday night your time). Pray for their flight and that they can rest! Here are some highlights:

  • Amazing services yesterday @ our New Hope Campus. We then baptized 2 people and I will be baptizing up to 6 more people tomorrow night! Praise God!
  • I still can’t believe what goes on over here. Inside this building where Dad works is fingerprint access. Outside is smelly ghetto. No joke. These factory workers make nothing and work 12 hours a day 5 days a week! (They make $250 a month plus get a small, tiny apartment type dorm room, yes, 1 room).
  • There are over a billion people and my heart is so full of the fact that they need the Lord. think of this with me. If you thought the previous generation didn’t know Christ, try kicking out millions of new people. The next generation truly needs the Lord as they are evermore led astray. Wow. Do you hear their hearts crying out? All of our jobs are coming here and the world is putting BILLIONS of dollars here…and why? Greed. And when we do this, we hold them under bondage even more until they are liberated as well and have at least basic freedoms.
  • I just had a call that I will be baptizing someone else Tuesday in secret. Why in secret? Her boyfriend works for the government and NO ONE can know about this, not even those in her church family for her fear of retribution. Wow…today has been so eye-opening, and I thought that I was just going to work with Dad for a day.
  • On the way here I saw more people living in tin shacks. Tomorrow before the baptisms, I will be spending the day out into the rural countryside. I am sure my report will be eye-opening.

That’s it for today. I just ask that you pray. Not just for CHINA, but as we talked about this weekend in the services @ NH…WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO RISK FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD. The world was just opened up to me in new ways the past 2 weeks…and my heart is excited, but yet grieved. But to reach the world…it begins with each of us…yes YOU, and ME…doing our part in prayer, serving, giving and listening to the voice of God.

What are YOUR THOUGHTS? Hit the comments and let your voice be heard!

Blessings and Peace…Ti Chien.

Top 5 answering: What makes NH tick in small town

In Church Staffing, leadership in a small to medium sized town on August 22, 2008 at 4:22 am

Many people ask this question of me. The music, the programs, the style, the marketing? The answer is SIMPLE. He is pictured above. Anyway. It really is SIMPLE in MY MIND…here we go:

1. God and the Holy Spirit’s leading. You can call that an over-spiritual answer, I call it the TRUTH according to SCRIPTURE here and in many other places.

2. Leadership. We have been gifted with some of the best leaders that a ministry could ask for from the ground up. Sure, we need a whole lot more, but who doesn’t?

3. The local BODY OF CHRIST called NEW HOPE. From day 1 our family @ NH has listened to the Holy Spirit speaking through the leadership and they get FIRED UP and FOLLOW HIS leading and are obedient when challenged with a task or a vision. Come on, again, it seems too easy, but I am speaking from my soul and the truth of SCRIPTURE.

4. Those who have gone before. To those who pour into NH and don’t even know it through leadership conferences, books, blogs, past and current experience, we say THANK YOU for leading the way and helping us to avoid critical mistakes (not that we are free from them) and to sort through to the GOOD FRUIT of ministry. Prayers of the saints who have gone before us in this territory have been another catalyst. They were praying for NH and didn’t even know it. The great cloud of witnesses we are surrounded by…

5. Saving one of the best for last…OUR STAFF and TEAM. Both paid and paid differently staff. We have assembled one of the best teams in the world I think (and try getting people to commit to LOUDONVILLE, OH…is so easy!) So I say that my staff could beat up your staff any day. Thanks guys for all you do to make NH what it is! I would not be in CHINA right now and we would never be at the level we are without you shedding your blood, sweat and tears! And to our VOLUNTEER STAFF…all of you who are MINISTERS at NH, but receive your pay in heavenly rewards. By the way, this is how the biggest majority are called and gifted, as servants who are paid not by a local church, but from on high. Did you know you were a MINISTER? Did you know you were on our TEAM? Don’t let where your pay check comes from determine how you serve the KINGDOM! I love all of you! Thanks for making NH not just TICK, but BURN WITH FIRE.

And last but not least…THIS WEEKEND is going to be one of the most passionate weekend’s ever as we shoot me back ON LOCATION from CHINA.

blessings and peace.

We do have OTHER news to let you know about.

In Ashland Campus, New Hope News on August 21, 2008 at 1:53 am

I was more than pumped about our live look-in yesterday. But the blessings just don’t stop!

I woke up this morning and saw THIS POST from our Ashland Campus Pastor and my heart starting PUMPING about what God is going to do in a few weeks in that space…DID YOU CLICK IT? Take a peek at our newest CAMPUS location. And the TEAM is doing an outstanding job with little time and little cash flow! That is why I was asking for so much prayer in finding STAFF for ASHLAND. God’s timing is always perfect…thought I wish He would look @ my schedule a little more carefully at times.

NEW HOPE is on the MOVE through HIS power. Are you PRAYING? Are you a part of the MISSION here or wherever God has you in HIS MISSION throughout the world? Be encouraged and be blessed that HE has CALLED you to a specific MISSION. And then GO LIVE IT OUT!

All I can say is WOW. Let’s all STOP and LISTEN and live out HIS passion whether ACROSS THE STREET or AROUND THE WORLD. The power of EVERYONE remember? We are ALL a part of what is happening ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Don’t miss this weekend @ the HOPE…my VIDEO stuff arrived in time for the WEEKEND! It will blow you away!

Ohhhh…and PRAY…this TYPHOON is coming and it’s a big one. Should not affect Tiff and Christian’s flight Monday (I return on Thursday). Pray as we weather the storm. (This is not the actual pic…the storm is coming over Hong Kong now).

Blessings and Peace.

Journeys through CHINA! Part 2

In China Trip 2008 on August 14, 2008 at 3:07 pm

What a difference a day makes. I will be brief today because I am very tired due to the time change, I was out all day and then off to a late evening prayer meeting and I am still sick.

Yesterday I showed you how the elite live in China or if you are or would be an average American moving to China. Today was REALITY 101. Here’s my take aways. Photos are at the end so you understand the shots.

  • I am ill due to the smells and food. I am sure I have lost weight. The food is not un-edible, but it’s not good either to me. It’s a 3 on a scale of 10. Great weight loss plan! Yes I am fairly picky…
  • Did I mention the smells everywhere? WOW.
  • When you see how people live you are overwhelmed. But that is their life and “city living” is FAR superior to the country which I will travel to with Brother Lee in about 10 days.
  • The church in CHINA is small, but growing every day. THEY ARE WAY SERIOUS ABOUT THEIR FAITH. Don’t take this wrong…myself included. We are lazy Christians in America.
  • The UG church is thriving and beginning to emerge with the governments slight allowance. It is growing to see that Christianity is not a threat to the government at all. But fear still shrouds everything. Most churches are hidden. Only one in this city of MILLIONS has their doors open to the streets.
  • The government is hot onto this church, but the church has been allowed to stay in operation. They are the only house church (they call them FAMILY CHURCHES) to have a screen and Power Point. Look for video and/or pics this weekend from 2 house churches.
  • You will be BLOWN AWAY by the interviews that we did with the UG church leaders. Don’t miss the next series: called ON LOCATION. It will be amazing.
  • I am also ill because the burden of looking at millions of people in this city who need the LORD is so heavy on me. Please pray…I am wrecked, wrecked, wrecked BIG TIME. My heart is ripped out and tread on as I want to SHOUT out loud the name and love of Jesus, but my trip would be cut short. I am wrecked…and that made me physically ill. The oppression and burden is thick here.
  • Did I mention that I am wrecked and I am burdened along with my family?
  • The house church Pastor’s training is on their own. They open the BIBLE and let it rip. Not a bad training manual.
  • People in China have a hard time recruiting for Children’s ministry. What’s the deal???
  • If you don’t watch out, they will run you over. No joke. Cars, taxi’s, motorcycles…seriously.
  • The Chinese are the most hospitable people on the face of the earth.
  • Take a crack at how these people really live, and PRAY please for the SOULS of CHINA. Don’t miss this series. Next weekend will be my first sermon from China meeting with the Campus Church and interviewing them. Pray as I am preaching @ 2 places this weekend.
  • My WORLD has been opened up like never before. Can’t wait for some of you to join me over here someday.
  • Go get ‘em back home at ALL our campuses…This weekend is set to be OFF THE CHAIN…and ASHLAND launches in a few weeks with practice services. GO LAUNCH TEAM! TIME TO ROLL!
  • Whoever thought we would be going into ALL THE WORLD? Speaking, encouraging and listening to these amazing leaders…know that you and your spirits are HERE WITH US. And they were BLESSED BEYOND BELIEF by our coming. We will be making plans on how to best equip this city leadership and gospel wise with these brave warriors.
  • More to report in the days ahead. I am off to bed now…

Journeys through CHINA! Part 1

In China Trip 2008 on August 13, 2008 at 10:30 am

Hello all! We are safely in CHINA! I will attempt to be brief each day as I detail highlights of the DISCOVERIES we will make along the way. We are + 12 hours, so it is Wed. here in China where my parents live. And by the way, this is the first time they have been able to access my blog site or the church web site. (We assume they opened up the blocked internet portals in China for the Olympics…so it is a great time for me to be here or blogging would be impossible.)

We began our journey in HONG KONG. All I can say is think NEW YORK CITY and then think even bigger. Welcome to HONG KONG. English everywhere, even the local paper was English. Why? HK used to be British ruled until the year 2000. It was easy to get around, and it felt like I was on vacation…it was quite a site. Tunnels underground that were filled with 5 star shopping. And above ground, much the same. As a matter of fact, every space has 5 star shopping. People are very wealthy and HK has the most millionaires per capita in the world. Simply amazing. Enoy the pics.

It was so bizarre and reality hit as we cleared customs into mainland CHINA. You know you are in a different country RIGHT AWAY. Different country? Yes…the first thing I noticed was NO ENGLISH and unlike HK where people spoke decent English, not here. Barely any signs were in English, where in HK, they were barely in Chinese! It was mainly English! The SECURITY was very tight and plentiful, unlike the looser standards in HK.

You also have to understand that there are 2 China’s, just like the USA. You can go to the best of times or the worst of times. My parents live of course in the best of times. As Americans they live in luxury (for Chinese standards). Starting with the picture where I marked the caption are some photos of where my parents live. I will be leaving the compound for a glimpse of some of the “Real China” tomorrow and will give you some updates as to what that is like.

This place is amazing. But most live on a seriously meager wage that you would find appalling. I will be getting a massage for 2 hours later this week for $7.50! That is ridiculous. And to give them a $10 and walk out would get the worker in much trouble. Check out the pic where there was a guy sitting on the window out my parent’s bedroom fixing their air. Notice how high he is…at least he had a rope holding him on, but are you kidding me? And for like $10 a day wage? You read right.

I have had several conversations with English speaking Chinese. They are some of the friendliest, most welcoming people I have ever met. I am working on how to talk about “the church” into the conversation. Pray for Steven, Edwin, Jonathan and a man from Portugal, Joseph I have met so far. God is opening up very easy conversations and they all seem to speak ENGLISH. I would assume that the people living here have a high education.

We are adjusting to the time change slowly but surely…it hits in waves, but it has been fairly easy after day 1. The food in HK was great, the food here…let’s just call it way more traditional Chinese. My parents just smile at me when I ask about it. They know the few local spots that will work for us…it’s a great diet plan I guess!

Here is my takeaway so far:

I thank my GOD for freedom like never before. I really cherish it more than ever. REALITY CHECK!

I will post tomorrow on the FIRST JOURNEY OUTSIDE this amazing place where they live into some of the real CHINA. Please PRAY! I will be preaching at 2 different places this weekend. Pray for safety and protection. Pray that we will be able to draft some plans and dreams of how to partner beyond my Mom and Dad as I am not sure how long they will be here after their first commitment of 3 years. I want the seeds planted to last forever! Pray also for our health as I am still fighting a stomach bug…and that CHRISTIAN will stop spazzing out…he is FULL of LIFE!!

(Which he should be!) But to mimic the horse jumping course Olympics off the living room furniture was a bit much. Glad Dad was asleep…and yes, the Olympics is on live all the time, but in Chinese…so we just mute it and figure it out.

Blessings and Peace!

why the world will end on 08.08.08 and things i will miss while i am in china.

In china campus on August 8, 2008 at 4:01 am

1. Freedom. (Have never experienced a loss of many freedoms before)

2. Food. (they eat fish heads, crickets, pickled ducks feet ummm, just about anything that we we would throw away and DON’T eat)

3. Golf. (picture caption above: “WHAT THE HAIL”…yes, we got stuck in a hailstorm on the course this year with BIG DAN MURPHY and it was a wicked storm, and yes, my 2nd shot–stuck it from 100 out w/ a slight back spin)

4. My Girls. (of course this list is in no particular order)

5. My Church. (i love you peeps)

6. Blogs, church websites, etc. (they have them blocked of course…wouldn’t want people to express opinion)

7. Stat Counter. (i love following the stats to our like 5 blogs, and I love you crazies who read)

8. Working Out. (been working out at least 3 times a week. SELPH is even coming, so the RAPTURE must be upon us, but really it is…Jesus is coming on 08-08-08…didn’t you hear?)

9. My Friends. (love ya)

10. Our Staff. (love ya too, even Bud and Kevin, the newbies)

11. Did I mention food, golf and my girls?

12. My Executive Assistant. (she is awesome and she won’t be there to bail me out, but I am certain she can still do miracles thousand of miles away:)

13. Ditto the Executive Pastor. (i am sure that the church will be way more CALM and STABLE under his watchful eye anyway)

14. TV and MOVIES. (mind numbing pleasure, and my dad almost got kicked out of the country for an illegal dish…nice one DAD)

15. The Weather. (you think it’s hot here…wicked hot and humid there every day)

16. My BED, My Rhapsody player, Normal toilets, and the ENGLISH language. (we’re in trouble)

blessings and peace.
