handoff.

In Church Leadership, New Hope News on April 30, 2008 at 5:24 pm

If you are a leader, you will resonate with this. I have had to learn this the hard way…

Jesus taught leadership development this way (not sure where I heard this [mine])…

1. JESUS did it, THEY watched. [Observation]

2. THEY did it, JESUS watched. [Practice/Delegation]

3. THEY did it, and came back and reported what had happened to JESUS. [Transfer/Accountability]

Handing off the leadership baton will take us to new heights in whatever world we roam. In the KINGDOM of GOD…it is what has taken Christianity from 12 to a whole bunch (but of coarse not enough).

I am doing that @ home with my kids, especially Christian at his age.

We just did this at New Hope too. Pastor Jeff Cooper is our new Executive Pastor. It has been a long time coming! I am handing off all day to day responsibilities to him at all campuses and he will be a leader of leaders. We will soar to new heights as a church.

Our Executive Team and Elders are beyond excited about this move. Along with the new hires coming, and some shuffling that will go with this, we are heading to new places for THE KINGDOM! And don’t worry, we have been transitioning this for awhile. (Since last Fall). Nothing will seem to change on the outside…but oh, so much will change. Let’s learn to lead like Jesus did!

Where can you do the leadership hand-off in ministry, at your job, discipling and training your kids?

peace…and go BUCKS (to Jeff S. with love)

basics.

In Devotional on April 28, 2008 at 7:38 pm

If you attend New Hope, you know that this year has been about getting back to the basics…the DNA of what the message and mission of Christ is. Simple…yet complex. How is DNA simple…but it is to those who own it. Kind of.

At all our campuses…we have to do this to rock this world for Christ. We must simplify. Fundamentals. DNA, Core Values…whatever.

Loudonville, Wooster, Ashland, Mohican Correctional, China, your neighborhood, your family, your school, the cubicle next to you…

1. Love JESUS, Love OTHERS.
2. INVITE others into the KINGDOM and the MISSION.
3. INVEST into the mission with your TIME/TALENTS/TREASURE.
4. Be OBEDIENT when God prompts in the ordinary and the extraordinary.

It’s that simple. But so hard to do. So hard to keep focus of.

When we ALL do that…look out. When we ALL don’t…look out. The basics.

blessings and peace…

space.

In Mohican Juvenile Correction Facility Campus, New Hope News on April 25, 2008 at 3:23 pm

Well, enough waiting. For the faithful re:gurger’s out there, you get the news here FIRST. Before I spread it, I want to let everyone know that this weekend @ NEW HOPE is going to be OFF THE CHAIN amazing. We have some really cool, special things planned…spread the word, you won’t want to miss is this weekend. We have an amazing Pastor/Friend of mine Scott Ridout from Sun Valley Community Church coming from Phoenix, AZ to teach @ the GENEROSITY CONFERENCE and will teach this weekend as well.

SPACE. The area where God can move. The space he can roam physically and spiritually. SPACE. You know our vision…to take JESUS to the WORLD.

I challenged people @ the hope to not wait on us to do MINISTRY…get out there and do what GOD is CALLING YOU to do. Some radical people took me seriously. The RESULT? A new campus is being birthed.

Here’s the skinny: We have received permission to put an entire CAMPUS into the Mohican Juvenile Correction Facility here in our area. Didn’t cross my mind…of course that wouldn’t be welcome is what I would have thought. God shouted to us otherwise.

They held a brief informal meeting with the boys there 2 weekends ago. 15-20 boys were there. 6 trusted CHRIST. We pray to start running the campus in 4-6 weeks. We will need volunteers to serve as hosts and some $$ for some equipment. Amazing isn’t it?

SPACE. For God to move and for us to follow HIS FLOW and be OBEDIENT. Here we go…and by the way: ONLY GOD.

Thanks for being RADICAL for the MISSION of CHRIST here @ the HOPE!

peace.

is your vision from GOD?

In Church Leadership on April 21, 2008 at 12:23 pm

Read this post from PERRY. Wow. If you are leader, especially a church leader or you desire to see into the thought processes of what crazy, insane, radical leaders who know that they have heard from God think. Check this. It should juice you a bit.

Here’s the DL:

  • If you feel confident that you can accomplish what is in front of you with no problem at all…then you didn’t hear from God.
  • If no one is angry at you…then you didn’t hear from God.
  • If you don’t have to ask anyone to sacrifice to make the vision come true…then you didn’t hear from God.
  • If religious people are not steaming at you, blogging about you and/or leaving your church…then you didn’t hear from God.
  • If you have the money in the bank to do what God has asked you church to do…then you didn’t hear from God.
  • If every step is perfectly designed and nothing happens to totally throw you off along the way…then you didn’t hear from God.
  • If someone doesn’t try to talk you out of what you are about to attempt…then you didn’t hear from God.
  • If you don’t stay up at night thinking about the vision…then you didn’t hear from God.
  • If your vision is in contradiction to God’s Word…then you didn’t hear from God. (And no, you didn’t get a “special revelation” that gave you permission to trump His Word!)
  • If you know all of the answers…then you didn’t hear from God.

WOW. I know I have been there MANY TIMES at New Hope and not @ the Hope. How about you? When is the last time you really heard from GOD?

blessings and peace.

woo-town.

In New Hope News, Wooster Campus on April 17, 2008 at 6:47 pm

It’s been awhile…and I need to give a HUGE shout out to our WOO-TOWN team. They are knocking it out of the park! Pastor Tim, the gang of staff and volunteers are doing an amazing job, despite all of the challenges of the past year! Some great pics of the new campus and all the transformation. We seek to now take that TRANSFORMATION to the COMMUNITY!

As we continue to look to the LORD for guidance, let us never GIVE UP or GIVE IN as we seek to REACH and TEACH our community and BEYOND to become PASSIONATE followers of CHRIST!

One church…many locations. From Loudonville to Wooster to Ashland to China to some amazing news we will release NEXT WEEKEND (and here first next FRIDAY). I stand amazed and thank you all…whatever campus you attend. We are family (i got all my sisters with me…) couldn’t resist.

We’ve only SCRATCHED the surface of GOD’S WORK through us.

peace.

In Ashland Campus, Church Leadership, New Hope Stuff, re:SOURCE conference on April 16, 2008 at 1:41 pm

not really yet. wow. what a weekend. catch the teaching if you can @ the website.

It looks like Ashland High School will probably be the place. What an answer to prayer. Now the bad part…but it is a good part: 2 SERVICES right away due to the size of the place. Don’t think about it, just PRAY.

The re:SOURCE conference is gaining steam…had a great talk with Mark Batterson and Dwight last week. We are all amped about teaching, networking and fellowshipping with Pastors in small to medium sized towns or that are in large cities who want an inside look at not just what is going on here, but in various models around the country (world). It’s an ALL-ACCESS look behind the scenes. It’s not your ordinary conference gathering. Look for the website and all info around the 1st of JUNE.

Heading out to help train church planters @ First Steps in Charlotte. Are you a church planter in need of comprehensive training? E-mail me…I’ll give ya the scoop.

And next Friday…be here for the official scoop on some BIG PLANS that God has given to us. Read it here first…

Last but not least…we have plenty of JOB OPENINGS. Check them out if God tugs @ ya.

It never slows @ the HOPE…nor should it. And man…the more we do lately, the better I feel. I am certainly a long way from who I used to be in that area where I did it all and loved this place more than my FIRST PLACE.

blessings and peace.

finally.

In Ashland Campus, Only God on April 10, 2008 at 5:40 pm

I have a meeting set up to review using the High School as our base for weekends for our Ashland Campus launching this fall. Pray! Tomorrow @ 1:00 PM.

One issue is that with only 200 seats we will probably be at 2 services right away. Great advantages and disadvantages to that! I always encourage church planters to be at multiple services quickly…but week 1?

Also pray as we start advertising and looking for the Campus Pastor and Arts Pastor positions this week. Should be up today or tomorrow as we begin. PRAY!

Tonights devotion time at our ASHLAND LAUNCH TEAM MEETING will be off the hook, the best ever. Want to know why? Come see. 6:30 @ the Ministry Center in ASHLAND.

And one more cool thing. A church talked about us from their pulpit this past weekend, and it got back to me as it usually does. THEY SPENT 45 MINUTES PRAYING FOR US AS WE PARTNER TOGETHER TO REACH PEOPLE FOR CHRIST! Insane and only God.

…and start following me on TWITTER…come on, only 3 brave souls? peace.
