water

In New Hope Stuff on August 22, 2007 at 7:51 pm

Please pray for all of those affected by the recent water. There are 2 groups of people to keep in mind right now. After the recent rains and flooding, pray for those who have lost homes, businesses, and possibly their jobs as they have been affected by this torrent of rain we have had. Our hearts go out to them. If there is anything we as a church can do, drop me a line.

The second group had water affect them in a much different way. We held our 5th public baptism this past weekend. Despite the crazy weather (monsoon like weather), we stayed dried as we moved indoors (725+ people according to some counts) and were able to dodge the rain as we baptized 91 people this past weekend in the lake. That brings the total for the month to almost 100 people from both our campuses. If you were not there, it was an amazing night…hope to see you next year!

Hundreds of people worshipping God, fellowshipping with an amazing meal and to see all of the changed lives…words cannot express. Really, they can’t.

Oh by the way, we were told by a few people that when we finished the last person and were heading into the shore, lighting struck for the first time. Isn’t our God great? The pic is just a small sampling of the crowd that gathered at Round Lake…and taken from across the lake.

I love being a part of this thing…

wind

In Devotional on August 13, 2007 at 3:35 am

Started this a week or so ago…just found it in my drafts and thought I would throw it out to you…

I love it when the wind of God blows. If you missed last weekend, you missed the “wind of God” sweeping through New Hope in a unique way. Not that God doesn’t show up around here, but it was unique. We cancelled the entire service 1 hour and 45 minutes before our Saturday Night service and did something completely different. People went out with more comments of how powerful the service was than has been heard in a long time. People told me how thankful we were to be obedient to God.
I have sensed a fresh wind the past few weeks @ New Hope…have you?

Sometimes we need God to stop our plans so that HIS plans can prevail. But that is so hard to do…at least for me. When the wind of God blows into your life, saying no is not an option. Well, it is an option, but not a very good one. Are you ready?

One cool thing about the wind is that you can’t see it…but you look around and you know it is there. You see it’s impact. Though you can’t see HIM, you know He is there impacting the world around us…and the sobering thing is that we are the catalyst to unlock HIS power and the wind will blow as we are obedient in every area of our lives. Are you ready?

It is so amazing to be led by HIM…let the wind blow this week in your life.

until death do us part…but I wasn’t thinking it would be today

I have performed a bunch of weddings and I haven’t had this happen…YET! Maybe they were thinking of how long they will have to work to pay off the wedding.

Speaking of marriage…I love my Wife. Do YOU? (Not my Wife, yours dork).

cedar point boxscore

In My Life, New Hope Stuff on August 8, 2007 at 10:04 pm

OK…just a fun one for you adrenaline junkies. After our trip to Cedar Point, I offer my top lists…Haven’t been there in 11 years and much has changed, including the insane heights and speeds of these rides. Speed I like, heights, well you know. I never knew that my palms could sweat like my head. I had rivers flowing from them after a few of these rides, and eating bugs at 100+ miles and hour with your mouth wide open is sweet. (check back for a cool pic of a bug splattered on Nate’s forehead).

Top 5 Scariest Rides:
1. Top Thrill Dragster (42 stories high, 0-120 in 4 seconds…insane. it’s the huge one in the pic.)
2. Millennium Force (look at the pic from the previous “heights” post, need I say more?)
3. Power Tower (don’t laugh, it’s the heights I didn’t like.)
4. Well, I will end it there, the rest didn’t scare me at all.

Top 5 Rides Based on my Sweaty Palms:

1. Millennium Force (oh yeah, our first ride…3 hours to wait because of mechanical difficulties…that makes you feel good and then the Cedar Point Police arrested some guy…great entertainment while waiting…)
2. Top Thrill Dragster
3. Maverick
(brand new, and worth it!)
4. Raptor
5. Mantis

Top 5 Places to Eat:
1. Famous Dave’s BBQ
2. Famous Dave’s BBQ
3. Famous Dave’s BBQ
4. Famous Dave’s BBQ
5. Famous Dave’s BBQ

Top 3 Classics:
1. Gemini (my train lost the race…)
2. Mean Streak
3. Magnum XL 200 (in 3rd cause we couldn’t get on it, it was broken.)

I just kept telling myself, I have life insurance for my family to enjoy at my expense and I am on my way to Heaven, so what the heck…I guess that is good theology.

p.s. You don’t want to miss a “Why You Shouldn’t Come to Church” Summer Time challenge we did while @ the point…it is hilarious. I think it will run next weekend, but not sure…e-mail Jeff and harass him until he shows it.

heights

In Devotional on August 6, 2007 at 1:33 am

Anybody else watching the hall of fame game like my wife and I? (yes, she is awesome) I always get excited about it because a new year of dreams of my Bengals making the super bowl dance in my head like a kid at Christmas. Glad that Santa hasn’t kicked me in the teeth as many times as the Bengals have. Hey, they really have a chance if they can get everyone out of jail in time for the season…

Anyway. Heights. You like them? I can fly no problem, but heights kind of get to me. So tomorrow a friend and I are going to Cedar Point (my first time in 11 years or so). I love roller coasters big time, but the part I hate is the climb up the hill. The rest is amazing because you don’t have time to think about it. But that sloooooooooooooooooooooooooow climb to the top makes you think, and sweat, and maybe even have a potty accident. And as you climb that hill and get to the top you look out at the beauty and it takes your breath away. A new perspective, something you don’t see very often. You have soared to new heights.

It reminds me of what Isaiah said (40:31)–”They that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. They will mount up on wings like eagles, they will walk and not be weary, they will run and not faint.”

If you are like me, you want to soar to new heights and see the view like an eagle sees, but at times the view is more like that of an earthworm. Ever feel like that? I know I do…But remember, the climb to those heights is pretty scary and sometimes it seems like it takes forever, because many times it does.

But don’t worry…God is there to keep you going (not be weary) and there to revive you (not faint) when you need His touch the most. Wait on Him…that is the power to unlocking His strength in your life, and that will give you to power to see life from a whole new perspective. Even when God seems a million miles away…

Go soar.

I guess the rumor is out of the bag. Pastor Matt officially announced that the Wooster Campus would be occupying their new space at the former Westwood Baptist Church by late Fall, Lord-willing. “Building New Hope” (Wooster Style) is the same theme name that was given to our building expansion in Loudonville, and will keep the presence with the same name. To truly build NEW HOPE through Christ and a facility in the lives of the people in Wayne County and beyond! Check out the progress here: WOOSTER CAMPUS NEWS

I can’t imagine going back to our tiny little room where we couldn’t even cool the place in the Winter it was so hot! People all over the place, etc., etc…some of you remember. I bet they can’t imagine going back to not having 3 hours of tear-down and set-up here in the near future! What a dedicated team we have in Wooster.

Building New Hope will be done in 3-4 phases with the first phase beginning…ohhhh, last week when Matt and I put some holes in the wall to examine the place. We decided, we were not suited for that as we wanted the thing to stay standing, so we called in the pros, who were so excited, that they have begun the demolition on the place…really, demolition is one of my gifts, kind-of, no really, they took away my hard hat in Loudonville due to safety reasons.

Phase 1 will be a basic re-model of the auditorium to make it express the style that we are; breaking down walls for a large gathering space (lobby) with Next Steps Bookstore and Gathering Grounds Cafe; re-modeling the Hopeland and X-Kidz spaces, and also re-modeling the office complex. Other work includes clearing out the basement for future phases (Youth Ministry Space) and renovating the exterior of the building, including new signage. (oh yeah, and a huge thanks to the team that re-modled Pastor Matt’s new place there @ our future site and helped them move!)

We have $30,000 in start-up funds, and the rest will come in through the congregation in Wooster launching a 2 year capital campaign this Fall. Total costs? We don’t know yet, but are trusting God to do the same miracle He provided @ the Loudonville campus when we were brand new, growing and in need of a miracle!

Look for more details to follow, but in the meantime if you want to join the demolition or re-modeling teams, contact Pastor Matt (matt@newhopewired.tv). Please also be in prayer. Please also be in prayer. Did I mention, that we need to pray?

Who would have thought that our 2nd campus would be nearing 200 in attendance already? (187 last week…and it’s Summer!) Who would have known that the great family at Westwood would have the courage to join forces to reach a community for Christ? Only a God like we serve…it’s no surprise to Him.

I like surprises like that. God is great.
